Mauritius

The Mascarene Islands consist of Mauritius, Reunion and Rodrigues Island. They are all volcanic in origin and rise out of the deep blue Indian Ocean. The islands are surrounded by submerged atolls which are attractions for bait fish and that brings in the bigger game fish. Mauritius deep sea fishing is available year round and if you are patient you can catch a big marlin. However, other fish species include wahoo, yellow fin tuna, sharks and sailfish. The fishing and beautiful beaches make Mauritius an excellent place to visit after traveling in Sub-Saharan Africa. Champ de Mars racecourse is also worthy of an afternoon visit.  Last but not least, the island has the dubious distinction of being the only known habitat of the now extinct dodo bird.
